Nephrology is the specialty that deals with the kidneys and the diseases that affect them. In Marrakech, the kidneys filter the blood, remove waste in urine, regulate blood pressure and help keep the body in balance. When they work less well, the consequences can affect the whole body, often without symptoms at first. A nephrologist cares for chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, repeated urinary infections, kidney-related blood pressure problems and complications of diabetes or high blood pressure on the kidney. On Doctabib, the directory profiles help you find a nephrologist in Marrakech, then send an appointment request. The request is sent to the practitioner: no slot is booked at this stage, and the appointment is only confirmed once the practitioner confirms it. The listings concern non-registered practitioners: the information comes from the public directory and should be confirmed with the practice.

What does this specialist do? A nephrologist assesses how the kidneys work using blood and urine tests, blood pressure measurement and sometimes an ultrasound scan. They treat kidney diseases, slow their progression when possible, and monitor complications: anaemia, calcium disorders or excess potassium. They care for kidney stones together with the urologist, recurring urinary infections and autoimmune diseases that affect the kidney. When kidney function is very impaired, they prepare and follow replacement treatments such as dialysis, together with the care team, and support the patient over the long term.
When should you consult? Consult if a test shows high creatinine, protein or blood in the urine, or reduced kidney function. Also consult in case of repeated urinary infections, kidney stones, blood pressure that is hard to control, or if you have had diabetes or high blood pressure for a long time without recent kidney follow-up. Swollen ankles, unusual tiredness, foamy urine or a reduced volume of urine are signs to mention to your doctor. In case of severe lower back pain with fever, no urine at all or sudden swelling, contact the emergency services (15 / 19 / 177) quickly.
What happens during the consultation? The consultation starts with a conversation about your medical history, medicines, blood pressure and previous tests. The doctor measures your blood pressure, examines your ankles and abdomen, then orders blood and urine tests, a kidney ultrasound or a 24-hour urine collection if needed. They explain your results in plain language, suggest treatment or lifestyle measures — salt, hydration, physical activity — and set how often you should be followed up. Bring all your recent tests, the list of your medicines and your blood pressure readings if you have any.
